Twitch VIP or Team Invite Not Working
The role or invite shows as sent, but the person never gets access.
Is this your situation?
You assigned VIP, added a Business Manager, or sent a Team invite, and the other person still has no access. You want to know if the invite failed or if a step is still waiting on them.
The short answer
You sent the invite but access still has not appeared for VIP, Business Manager, or Team membership. A Business Manager must accept the role the next time they access the dashboard before gaining enhanced access. To join a team, a user must select Accept on the team invite.
What you see, and why
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| You added someone as Business Manager, but they see no enhanced access. | The Business Manager must accept the role before being granted enhanced access to the channel. |
| The Business Manager clicked the acceptance link but nothing changed. | CHANNEL in the acceptance link must be replaced with the channel's username. |
| Someone says their Team invite disappeared. | Team invites can expire. |
| A VIP role seems to not apply. | A user can only be either a VIP or a moderator, not both at the same time. |
Check these first
- Check whether the Business Manager opened the dashboard. The user must accept the role the next time they access the dashboard before viewing Business Manager pages.Verify: Ask them to open the dashboard and look for an acceptance prompt.
- Check the acceptance link. Business Managers must replace CHANNEL in the link with the channel's username.Verify: Check the link for the word CHANNEL instead of the real username.
- Check the Business Manager count. A channel owner can add a maximum of five Business Managers.Verify: Count current Business Managers in the Roles Manager list.
How Twitch handles this
- After a creator appoints a Business Manager, that person must accept the role the next time they access the dashboard before viewing its pages.
- After the channel owner confirms the role, the Business Manager must also accept before being granted enhanced access.
- To join a Team, a user must first receive a team invitation, go to the Channel Settings section of their dashboard, and select Accept on the team invite.
- Only the channel owner can add or remove the Lead Moderator, Editor, and Artist roles.
Which path applies to you?
- Did you add a Business Manager who still has no enhanced access? That user must accept the role the next time they access the dashboard.
- Did the Business Manager use the acceptance link without result? Confirm CHANNEL was replaced with the channel's username in the link.
- Did you send a Team invite that the person never accepted? The invite may have expired before they accepted it.
- Did you try to add VIP to someone who is already a moderator? A user can only be either a VIP or a moderator, not both at the same time.
Step by step: finding the cause
- Confirm which role you assigned. Check whether the role in question is VIP, Business Manager, or Team membership.Confirm: Check which role you tried to assign.
- Check the Roles Manager list. The Roles Manager shows all individuals who currently have a role on the channel.Where: Creator Dashboard → Community → Roles ManagerConfirm: Check the Roles Manager list for the person's name and role.
- For Business Manager, check acceptance status. The Business Manager must accept the role before gaining enhanced access.Confirm: Check with the Business Manager whether they saw an acceptance prompt.
- Check the acceptance link format. CHANNEL in the link must be replaced with the channel's username.Confirm: Check the link text for the word CHANNEL.
- Check the Business Manager limit. A channel owner can add a maximum of five Business Managers.Confirm: Count the current Business Managers listed.
- For Team invites, check expiration. Team invites can expire.Confirm: Check whether the invite still appears in My Teams.
- For VIP, check for a conflicting moderator role. A user can only be either a VIP or a moderator, not both at the same time.Confirm: Check the Roles Manager list for an existing moderator role.
- Reassign the role if a step was missed. To assign a role, search for the individual, check the role from the drop down, and click Save.Confirm: Check the Roles Manager list for the updated role after saving.
Common mistakes
- Assuming Business Manager access is immediate. The Business Manager must accept the role before being granted enhanced access. Why it happens: You see the role listed as added and expect access to follow right away.
- Leaving CHANNEL unreplaced in the acceptance link. Business Managers must replace CHANNEL in the acceptance link with the channel's username. Why it happens: The link is copied without editing the placeholder text.
- Trying to add a sixth Business Manager. A channel owner can add a maximum of five Business Managers. Why it happens: The existing list of five is not reviewed before adding another.
- Trying to give VIP to a current moderator. A user can only be either a VIP or a moderator, not both at the same time. Why it happens: The existing moderator role on that user is not checked first.
