How to Add Someone to a Facebook Page

Give someone access to help manage your Facebook Page without losing control yourself.

Is this your situation?

You want someone else to help run your Facebook Page, but you are not sure what access to give them. You want to add them without giving up control of the Page.

The short answer

A person with full control of a Facebook Page can add someone's Page access at any time. If the Page is in a business portfolio, access is managed from the portfolio in Meta Business Suite.

Before you start

  • Confirm your own access level You need full access to the Page or full access to the business portfolio to give someone access.Verify: Check your Page access in Page settings.
  • Decide between Page access and task access There are three types of Facebook Page access: Page access, task access and Community Manager access.Verify: Check which type fits the person's role.
  • Check whether the Page is in a business portfolio If a Page is part of a business portfolio, its access levels are different.Verify: Check Page settings for a linked business portfolio.

How Facebook handles this

  • A person with full control of a Facebook Page can add someone's Page access at any time.
  • A person must switch into their Page to manage Page access.
  • People can be given Facebook access or task access to help manage a Page.
  • Access to a Page that is in a business portfolio can only be managed from the portfolio in Meta Business Suite.

Step by step

  1. Switch into the Page A person must switch into their Page to manage Page access.Confirm: Check that you are viewing the Page, not your profile.
  2. Open Page settings After switching into a Page, click the Page's profile photo in the top right of Facebook.Confirm: Look for a menu after clicking the profile photo.
  3. Go to Page access From Page setup, click Page access.Confirm: Look for the Page access screen.
  4. Start adding a new person Next to People with Facebook access, click Add New, then click Next.Confirm: Look for a form to enter the person's details.
  5. Enter their email address When inviting someone using their Facebook account, enter the person's email address.Confirm: Check the email field for the address you entered.
  6. Match the email to their Facebook account The email address entered must match the one used for their Facebook account.Confirm: Check the email against the one they use to log in.
  7. Choose their access type People can be given Facebook access or task access to help manage a Page.Confirm: Check the access type selector shows your choice.
  8. Wait for them to accept After being invited to have access on a Facebook Page, a user receives either a notification or an email.Confirm: Check your Page access list for the person's name.If this fails: Ask the person to check their notifications and email.

Common mistakes

  • Giving full control by mistake Giving Facebook access with full control gives them the same access as the person giving it.Why it happens: The access type was chosen without checking what full control includes.
  • Not matching the email to their account The email address entered must match the one used for their Facebook account. Why it happens: A personal or work email is entered instead of the one tied to their Facebook login.
  • Expecting task access to allow switching into the Page People with task access can't switch into the Page or manage it on Facebook. Why it happens: Task access is confused with full Page access.
