What Is a Meta Business Portfolio

A business portfolio is the shared control panel behind your Facebook Pages, ad accounts and other assets.

Is this your situation?

You keep hearing "business portfolio" and are not sure how it differs from a Page or an ad account you already manage. You want to know what it actually controls before you add people or assets to it.

What it is

A business portfolio brings together and manages an organization's business assets, such as Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts and ad accounts, in one place. It lets organizations manage the people who access those assets from one place, using business tools such as Meta Business Suite. People are assigned access to the portfolio and its assets through a 2-layer permissions system. In Meta Business Suite, access comes in two levels: full control and partial access. Those two levels apply both to the portfolio itself and to individual assets in it, such as Pages, Instagram accounts and ad accounts.

How Facebook handles this

  • A portfolio manages access and permissions of people who work on business assets.
  • Full control is the highest level of access available in Meta Business Suite.
  • People can be added to a portfolio and assigned assets such as an ad account, Facebook Page or Instagram account.
  • Adding people to a portfolio is different from adding partners to a portfolio.
  • A portfolio is required to use Meta Business Suite.

Common mistakes

  • Adding people is different from adding partners Adding people to a business portfolio differs from adding partners to it.Why it happens: Both look like ways to give access.Already happened: Review who has partner access if unsure.
  • You expect access to follow automatically People can be assigned business assets such as an ad account, Page or Instagram account. Why it happens: You expect access once someone is added.
  • You assume an ad account can move like a Page An ad account created in a business portfolio will permanently be part of that portfolio. Why it happens: You assume ad accounts move like Pages.
