How to Add Someone to Your Facebook Business Portfolio

Add a person to your business portfolio and assign the assets they need to work on.

Is this your situation?

You need someone to work on your Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts or ad accounts and they are not yet in your business portfolio. You want to add them and give them only the assets they need.

The short answer

Full control of the business portfolio is needed to add people to it. Assign only the level of access people need to complete their work.

Before you start

  • Confirm you have full control A person needs full control of the business portfolio to add people and assign assets.Verify: Check that People is visible in Settings.
  • Confirm your email address A user may need to confirm their email address before adding people.Verify: Check Business info for a confirmation request.
  • Check account status Neither the inviter nor the invitee can have a disabled or restricted account.Verify: Check that both accounts are active.

How Facebook handles this

  • Only people with full control of a business portfolio can add people to it.
  • By default, people are given basic access when added to a business portfolio.
  • When people join, their name, work email address and assigned assets become visible to people with full control of the portfolio.
  • A person added to a business portfolio must accept the invitation.

Step by step

  1. Open business portfolio settings Go to Settings in Meta Business Suite for the business portfolio.Where: Meta Business Suite → SettingsConfirm: Check that Settings has opened for your business portfolio.
  2. Open People Click People in the left menu of Settings.Where: Settings → PeopleConfirm: Check the left menu for the People option. If this fails: If People is not visible, you may not have full control of the business portfolio.
  3. Start an invitation Click Invite people in the top right.Where: People → Invite peopleConfirm: Check that an invitation form has opened.

  7. Assign assets and permissions Select business assets and permissions for the person, then click Invite.Where: Invite people → AssetsConfirm: Check that the selected assets and permissions are listed.
  8. Wait for acceptance The person must accept the invitation before they join the portfolio.Confirm: Check the People list for a pending status next to their name.

Common mistakes

  • Email does not match The email entered must match the one used for the person's Facebook account. Why it happens: You enter an email you use elsewhere instead of the one on their Facebook account.
  • Partner-shared assets are limited If a partner shares an asset with your organization, you are limited to the permissions the partner assigned. Why it happens: Being limited to a partner's assigned permissions may prevent giving someone full control of that asset.Already happened: Review who really owns a Facebook Page if ownership of a shared asset is unclear.
  • No one has full control A user without full control of a business portfolio may be unable to add people to it.Why it happens: Only people with full control of a business portfolio can add people to it.
