How to Transfer Ownership of a Twitch Channel

Twitch channels cannot be handed to another account the way Twitch Teams can.

Is this your situation?

You want to hand a Twitch channel to another person or company and are not sure it is possible. Partners may transfer ownership of their team to other Partners or to non-Partners.

The short answer

You want to hand off the channel itself, not a Twitch Team. To request a change in team ownership, the current owner must be a Partner and must contact Support.

Before you start

  • Confirm what you are trying to transfer You may mean the channel itself or a Twitch Team page you manage.Verify: Check whether you mean the channel or a team page you manage.
  • Check your Partner status The current owner must be a Partner and must Contact Support.Verify: Confirm your account shows Partner status in your dashboard.
  • Check who the new owner will be A Partner may transfer team ownership to other Partners or to non-Partners.Verify: Confirm the receiving account and its Partner status.

How Twitch handles this

  • Only one account can own and edit a Twitch Team at a time.
  • To request a change in team ownership, the current owner must be a Partner and must contact Support.
  • A Partner can transfer their team's ownership to other Partners or to non-Partners.
  • Only Partners can request team ownership transfers.

Step by step

  1. Confirm you hold the team Only one account can own and edit a Twitch Team at a time.Confirm: Check the My Teams section of your Channel Settings for your team page.
  2. Confirm you are a Partner Only Partners can request team ownership transfers.Confirm: Check your dashboard for Partner status.
  3. Decide who receives the team A Partner may transfer team ownership to other Partners or to non-Partners.Confirm: Check that you have the correct receiving account.
  4. Contact Support To request a change in team ownership, the current owner must be a Partner and must Contact Support.Confirm: Check for a reply confirming the request was received.
  5. Understand what transfers An Affiliate or regular non-monetized user who receives ownership gets all team ownership powers of the Partner that created the team, except requesting new teams or transfers.Confirm: Check the My Teams section for the new owner's editing powers.
  6. Know the limit on future requests Transferring a team's ownership does not allow further team creation requests.Confirm: Check your team count before asking Support for a new team.

Before you change who is in control

  • Expecting a channel transfer process Twitch states a transfer path for Twitch Teams. Why it happens: Readers conflate a channel with a team page.Already happened: If control has already changed hands — Recover a Twitch Account After the Original Owner Leaves
  • A non-Partner owner tries to request a transfer If a non-Partner team owner needs to transfer ownership, Twitch Support will deny the request. Why it happens: Team ownership can pass to a non-Partner, who then cannot request a further transfer.Already happened: If Support denied your request, review moderator and access structure.
  • Assuming a received team can be transferred again An Affiliate or regular user who receives team ownership cannot request further ownership transfers. Why it happens: That power is excluded from what a non-Partner owner inherits.

Keeping track of who has access

Once you know whether a channel, a team, or a role is what you are actually changing, keep a record of it. Delvia is where you track who has access after that change is made.
