TikTok Shop roles and permissions explained
TikTok Shop splits access by role, so each team member sees only the tools their role covers.
Is this your situation?
You are adding people to help run a TikTok Shop and want to know what each one can actually do. You are checking whether a role limits someone to viewing orders or lets them edit the shop's settings.
What it is
User Management lets the shop owner add staff and assign preset roles with permissions to access Seller Center. Only the shop owner account can add users in User Management. There are currently eight preset roles available in User Management. A user can be assigned more than one role at a time. All eight preset roles can view and edit general pages like Homepage, Shop Health, and Help center.
How TikTok handles this
- Main Administrator: views and edits almost all pages except sensitive data like User Management, Account Information, and Linked TikTok Accounts.
- Finance Specialist: views and edits all Finance pages, including Bills, Payments, and Invoice center, besides general pages.
- Customer Service Agent: views and edits all pages under IM, Products, Orders, and Shipping, besides general pages.
- Product Management Specialist: views and edits IM, but only views Products, Orders, and Shipping, besides general pages.
Side by side
| Role | Can do | Cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| Main Administrator | Views and edits almost all pages and features in Seller Center. | Except sensitive and private store information such as User Management. |
| Affiliate Manager | Views and edits Affiliate Marketing pages besides general pages. | Limited to Affiliate Marketing and general pages. |
| Advertising Manager | Views and edits all pages and features under Ads besides general pages. | Limited to Ads and general pages. |
| Order Fulfillment Specialist | Views and edits all pages and features under Orders and Shipping besides general pages. | Limited to Orders, Shipping, and general pages. |
Common mistakes
- Assuming every role can edit products Role permissions are split into viewing and editing, so some roles may lose edit permission. Why it happens: Permissions for each role are split into viewing and editing.Already happened: See the access review checklist if access looks wrong.
- Customer Service Agent loses order edit access A Customer Service Agent sub-account may lose permission to edit products or orders. Why it happens: A Customer Service Agent sub-account may suddenly lose that permission.
- Trying to assign a permission directly An owner cannot directly assign permissions to a sub-account; only roles are assigned. Why it happens: A sub-account has all permissions under its assigned roles.
