Who can access a TikTok Shop?
TikTok Shop access is a mix of the owner account and roles the owner assigns to others.
Is this your situation?
You run a TikTok Shop and want to know who besides you can get into Seller Center. You are deciding whether to add staff, an account manager, or an administrator to help run the shop.
What it is
Only the shop owner account can add users in User Management. User Management lets the shop owner add staff and assign preset roles with permissions to access Seller Center. There are currently eight pre-set roles available in User Management. Some Seller Profile tabs are only visible to the shop owner's account for safety reasons. This includes User Management and Linked TikTok Accounts.
How TikTok handles this
- Shop owners can add sub-accounts for employees to help manage and operate a TikTok Shop.
- Shop owners can assign staff different roles with unique permissions.
- A sub-account has all the permissions under the roles assigned to it.
- Account Managers have view-only access under the seller's account-sharing mode.
Side by side
| Role | Can do | Cannot do |
|---|---|---|
| Shop owner | Adds, edits, deletes, deactivates, and reactivates user roles. | N/A |
| Main administrator | Edits chat, personal settings, shop chat settings, and chat assistant, and views or downloads the service analytics dashboard. | N/A |
| Customer Service agent | Edits chat and personal settings. | Can't view the Service analytics dashboard. |
| Account manager | Can access the seller's accounts, including sub accounts, under this viewing-access mode. | Cannot edit anything while logged in through this viewing-access mode. |
Common mistakes
- Assuming a sub-account can be given permissions directly A shop owner cannot directly assign permissions to a sub-account; only roles can be assigned. Why it happens: You expect to set permissions one by one.
- Expecting a Customer Service agent to see analytics The Customer Service agent role can edit chat and personal settings, but can't view the Service analytics dashboard. Why it happens: You assume every role sees the same dashboard.
- Not knowing who can manage team access Only sub-accounts with the Affiliate Manager or Main Administrator role can access the organization account. Why it happens: You assume any sub-account reaches the organization account.
