How to Change Someone's Role in TikTok Business Center
Change a member's Business Center role without resending an invitation or losing their work assignments.
Is this your situation?
You need a member to have more or fewer permissions in TikTok Business Center. You want the new role applied without removing the member or disrupting their assigned accounts and assets.
The short answer
When adding a member, the admin chooses either the Admin or Standard role. Standard members work only on the accounts and assets they're given.
Before you start
- Confirm Admin access Admin role can add a Member, but Standard role cannot.Verify: Check the member under the Users tab to confirm their role.
- Know the role options The Basic roles in a Business Center are Admin and Standard.Verify: Review the roles list before changing anything.
- Check Advanced role needs Finance Manager or Financial Analyst permissions are optionally added to the Admin or Standard role.Verify: Decide if finance permissions are needed.
- Check account assignment Admin role can assign a member to a TikTok account, but Standard role cannot.Verify: Review the permissions before assigning access.
How TikTok handles this
- Admins have full access to all system functions in a Business Center.
- Standard members work only on the accounts and assets they're given.
- Advanced roles give extra permissions to view and manage finances in a Business Center and its connected ad accounts.
- An Advanced role must be assigned to Business Center Admins in order for them to view or manage finances.

- Open the Users tab Find the member whose role needs to change.Where: TikTok Business Center → UsersConfirm: Check the Users list for the member's name.
- Locate the member's current role The Admin role has full access to all features in the Business Center.Confirm: Check the role column next to the member's name.
- Select the new basic role Choose either the Admin or Standard role.Confirm: Check that the intended role is selected.
- Check Standard role scope The Standard role has access to and can only work on accounts and assets they are assigned to.Confirm: Check which accounts and assets are assigned to the member.
- Add finance role When adding a member, an admin can optionally add Finance Manager or Financial Analyst permissions to the Admin or Standard role.Confirm: Check whether a finance role appears selected.
- Save Check that the member's updated role has been saved.Confirm: Check the Users list for the member's updated role.If this fails: Refresh the Users tab and try again.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a role change widens asset access Standard members work only on the accounts and assets they're given. Why it happens: You expect the new role to cover everything, not only assigned assets.Already happened: Review the member's asset assignments in Business Center asset permissions.
- Expecting Standard to add members Admin role can add a Member, but Standard role cannot. Why it happens: You assume any role can manage membership the way Admin does.
- Forgetting finance roles stack on Admin An Advanced role must be assigned to Business Center Admins in order for them to view or manage finances. Why it happens: You assume Admin access alone already includes finance visibility.
- Expecting Standard to invite partners Admin role can invite a Partner, but Standard role cannot. Why it happens: You assume Standard can handle partner invitations like Admin.
