Business Suite vs Business Manager (Business Portfolio)

Business Suite and Business Manager are not two systems, but two names for the same place that manages your Pages, ad accounts and the people on them.

Is this your situation?

You keep seeing both names and wonder if your business portfolio setup is in the wrong place. You want to know what actually changed and what did not, and how to confirm it through an access audit.

What it is

A business portfolio brings together an organization's business assets, such as Facebook Pages, Instagram accounts and ad accounts, in one place. It is managed with business tools such as Meta Business Suite. A business portfolio allows organizations to manage the access and permissions of the people who work on those assets. In Meta Business Suite, there are two levels of access: full control and partial access. These levels apply to the business portfolio itself and to the assets inside it, such as Pages, Instagram accounts and ad accounts.

How Facebook handles this

  • Full control is the highest level of access a person can have in Meta Business Suite.
  • People with full control of a portfolio can manage access to assets shared with partner businesses.
  • People with full control can be automatically assigned access to any asset to complete a task, such as publishing an ad.
  • Basic access was formerly called the employee role.
  • Basic access is the default permission level given when people are added to a business portfolio.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming basic access shows everything People with basic access can view who has full control of the portfolio. Why it happens: You expect the default role to show more than it does.Already happened: If you no longer know who holds full control, see how to audit who has access.
  • Treating temporary access as permanent You can choose to give people temporary access when adding them to a portfolio. Why it happens: You select the option without checking when it ends.
  • Forgetting what expiry does When temporary access expires, the person is removed from the portfolio and any assigned assets. Why it happens: You don't notice the expiry date until access is already gone.
