Instagram Is Already Connected to Another Page

Facebook says your Instagram account is already connected to another Page. Here is how to disconnect it cleanly and link it where you actually want it.

An Instagram account can be connected to only one Facebook Page at a time. If you are getting an "already connected" message, the account is still tied to an old or different Page — often one set up by a previous team, agency, or a test Page you forgot about. You need to remove that existing link first; trying to force a second connection will keep failing until you do.

If your situation is actually …

Why the account stays claimed

When an Instagram account was connected to a Page in the past, that link persists even if you have stopped using the old Page. Facebook treats the existing connection as authoritative and will not let a second Page claim the same account on top of it.

The cleanest resolution is to disconnect from the old Page using the account that controls it. The tricky cases are when you no longer have access to that old Page — for example, an agency set it up and has since left. In that situation you may need to disconnect from the Instagram side instead, or recover access to the old surface first.

Disconnect and reconnect

Pick the path that matches how much access you still have to the old Page.

  1. Find where the Instagram account is currently linked

In the Instagram app, open settings and look for the linked Facebook Page or accounts centre entry. This tells you which Page is holding the connection so you know what you are disconnecting from.

Where: Instagram app → Settings → Accounts Centre / Linked accounts

Confirm: You can see the name of the Page the account is connected to.

  2. Disconnect from the old Page

If you can reach the old Page's settings, remove the Instagram connection there. If you cannot reach that Page but can sign in to the Instagram account, disconnect from the Instagram side instead — that releases the account regardless of who held the old Page.

Where: Old Page settings, or Instagram app → Linked accounts

Confirm: The Instagram account no longer lists a connected Page.

  3. Connect to the Page you actually want

With the old link cleared, go to the correct Page's settings and connect the Instagram account. Make sure you have Full control of that Page and that the Instagram account is professional.

Where: Meta Business Suite → Settings → Linked accounts → Instagram

Confirm: The Instagram account shows as connected to the correct Page.

Access issues are easier to prevent when roles, owners, and responsibilities are recorded clearly

Most access problems trace back to the same gap — no clear record of who has access, what role they hold, and what should happen when that changes. Delvia helps you keep that record so problems are visible before they become incidents.

Delvia is free on iPhone and Android. Keep a clear record of who has access to your accounts — and what to do when that changes — wherever you are.
