How to Add Someone to Your Facebook Business Portfolio

Adding a teammate to your Business Portfolio is step one, not the whole job. Here’s how to add them — and why you still have to assign assets separately.

Adding someone to your Business Portfolio (formerly Business Manager) makes them a member — Admin or Employee — but on its own it grants access to nothing. This is the single most misunderstood step in Meta access: membership and asset access are two separate actions. After you add a person, you must assign them the specific Pages and ad accounts they need.

If your situation is actually …

Before you start

  • You have Admin access to the Business Portfolio

Only a portfolio Admin can add people. Employees cannot.

Verify: Meta Business Suite → Settings → People — if you can see an Add option, you have Admin.

  • You have the person’s work email

Invites go to an email address. Use the email the person will use to confirm; they accept and link it to their Facebook profile.

  • You’ve decided Admin vs Employee

Admin can manage the whole portfolio including people and billing. Employee can only work on assets explicitly assigned to them. Default to Employee.

Add someone to your Business Portfolio

  1. Open People in Business settings

In Meta Business Suite, go to Settings and open People.

Where: Meta Business Suite → Settings → People

  2. Invite the person

Click Add (or Invite), enter their email, and choose Admin or Employee access to the portfolio.

Confirm: The person appears under People with a pending status until they accept.

  3. Have them accept the invite

The person receives an email and confirms. Their membership activates once accepted.

If this fails: Page invite not received

  4. Assign the assets they need

This is the step people miss. Open the person’s entry and assign specific Pages and ad accounts with the right tasks. Until you do, they see nothing.

Where: Meta Business Suite → Settings → People → (person) → assign assets

Confirm: The person’s assigned assets list the Pages and ad accounts you granted.

If this fails: Assign assets after adding someone

Common mistakes

  • Stopping after adding them to the portfolio

Portfolio membership grants nothing. The person reports they "can’t see anything" because the assets were never assigned.

Why it happens: The add and the assign look like one action but are two.

Already happened: Assign assets after adding someone

  • Making everyone an Admin

Admin can manage people, partners, and billing across the whole portfolio. Most teammates should be Employees with assigned assets.

Why it happens: Admin removes friction in the moment but over-grants long-term.

Frequently asked questions

Because being in the portfolio isn’t the same as having the Page assigned. Assign the Page asset to them with the right tasks.

Access issues are easier to prevent when roles, owners, and responsibilities are recorded clearly

Most access problems trace back to the same gap — no clear record of who has access, what role they hold, and what should happen when that changes. Delvia helps you keep that record so problems are visible before they become incidents.

Delvia is free on iPhone and Android. Keep a clear record of who has access to your accounts — and what to do when that changes — wherever you are.
