Discord Connection Not Working
A Twitch, YouTube, or other connection looks linked on your account but membership or subscriber roles are not showing up in the server.
Is this your situation?
You connected Twitch, YouTube, or another account to Discord, and the server still will not give you the role or access you expect. You have checked the connection and it still shows as linked on your side.
The short answer
This is real, and it is usually a sync problem rather than a broken connection. If a gifted or joined membership does not show, try removing the YouTube channel under User Settings > Connections and reconnecting it. If reconnecting Twitch does not fix it, ask the streamer or a moderator to run a manual sync in Integrations.
What you see, and why
| Symptom | Cause |
|---|---|
| The YouTube membership role never appears after joining. | If a gifted or joined membership does not show the server or the role, remove the YouTube channel under Connections and reconnect it. |
| The Twitch subscriber role is missing after subscribing. | If a gifted subscription or joined server does not show, remove the Twitch account under Connections and reconnect it. |
| Reconnecting the account did not fix the missing role. | The streamer or a moderator may need to run a manual sync in Integrations under Server Settings. |
Check these first
- Check whether the channel is a YouTube Partner channel.Verify: Integrating a YouTube channel is only available for YouTube Partners.
- Check whether the Twitch channel is Partner or Affiliate.Verify: A user needs to be a Twitch Partner or Affiliate to integrate Twitch into a server.
- Check that your YouTube or Twitch account is actually connected first.Verify: A viewer must connect their account to their Discord account to access a creator's server through a membership.
How Discord handles this
- Webhooks allow automated messages and data updates to be sent to a specific text channel in a server.
- YouTube membership data syncs in near real-time.
- An extra sync is run once a week to catch errors.
- Members who pass the checks for a Linked Roles requirement will not automatically show up in the role's member list.
Which path applies to you?
- Did you recently reconnect the YouTube channel under Connections? If the membership still does not appear after reconnecting, ask the YouTuber or a moderator to run a manual sync in Integrations under Server Settings.
- Did you recently reconnect the Twitch account? If that does not resolve it, ask the streamer or a moderator to run a manual sync by heading into Integrations in their Server Settings.
- Is the membership or subscription gifted rather than paid directly? A gifted or joined membership may not show the server under connections or the membership role.
- Is the role tied to a Linked Role requirement instead? Members who pass the checks for a Linked Role will not automatically show up in the role's member list.
- Have you checked the Integrations page to see who manages the connection? The Integrations page lets a user see who added a given YouTube or Twitch account to the server.
Step by step: finding the cause
- Open Connections in User Settings. On Desktop/Browser, press the cogwheel icon to access User Settings.Confirm: Check the Connections list for the account in question.
- Remove the YouTube channel connection. If a gifted or joined membership does not show the server or the membership role, try removing the YouTube channel under User Settings > Connections.Confirm: Check that the YouTube tile no longer appears as connected.
- Reconnect the YouTube channel. Tapping the YouTube tile under Connections opens a new browser window to log into a YouTube account.Confirm: A message appears stating the account was successfully connected.
- Check the server and role again. Check the server list and role for the membership you expect.Confirm: Check whether the server or membership role now appears.
- Ask for a manual YouTube sync. If the membership still does not appear after reconnecting, ask the YouTuber or one of their moderators to run a manual sync in Integrations under Server Settings.Confirm: Check with the moderator whether the sync has been run.
- Ask for a manual Twitch sync. If removing and reconnecting the Twitch account does not resolve the issue, ask the streamer or one of their moderators to run a manual sync in Integrations under Server Settings.Confirm: Check with the streamer or moderator whether the sync has been run.
Common mistakes
- Assuming a connection problem when the account was never eligible. Integrating a YouTube channel into a Discord server is only available for YouTube Partners. Why it happens: You see the connection linked and expect it to work right away.
- Assuming a connection problem when the Twitch channel isn't Partner or Affiliate. A user needs to be a Twitch Partner or Affiliate to integrate Twitch into a server. Why it happens: You expect the subscriber role to appear without checking your channel status.
- Expecting a gifted membership to show up without delay. A gifted or joined membership may not show the server under connections or the membership role. Why it happens: You recently joined or received the membership and want to see access right away.
