How to Enable Server Subscriptions on Discord
Set up subscriptions once your server has the right roles, monetization access, and connected billing in place.
Is this your situation?
You want to enable server subscriptions and the option is not showing where you expect it. This page covers the setup path for server subscriptions and the monetization pieces around them.
The short answer
Server subscriptions run through User Settings > Subscriptions and related billing and payment-method settings. Server and app subscriptions charge from the original payment method selected or the one set for that subscription.
Before you start
- Payment method on file A valid payment method linked to the account is required to make a purchase.Verify: Check User Settings > Billing for a saved payment method.
- Default vs subscription payment method Updating the subscription payment method does not change the default.Verify: Check Subscriptions for the Pay for it With section.
- Server and app subscription billing source Server and app subscriptions charge from the original payment method or the Premium App Subscriptions list.Verify: Check the Premium App Subscriptions list for the payment method set.
How Discord handles this
- Users can manage active subscriptions in the Subscriptions tab in User Settings.
- The Subscriptions tab shows renewal dates and the amounts you will be charged.
- The Subscriptions tab provides options to manage subscriptions, including canceling or switching plans.
- A payment method can be set as default.

- Open User Settings Access User Settings by pressing the cogwheel icon.Confirm: Check that the settings menu has opened.
- Go to Billing Payment methods on file and payment history can be found under User Settings > Billing.Where: User Settings → BillingConfirm: Check the Billing tab for listed payment methods.
- Add a payment method if needed Select Add Payment Method and complete the prompts.Confirm: Check that the new card now appears in the Billing list.
- Set a default payment method Select Edit next to the desired payment method or add a new one.Confirm: Check the payment method for a default label.
- Open Subscriptions Go to User Settings > Subscriptions to manage the payment method for ongoing subscription payments.Where: User Settings → SubscriptionsConfirm: Check that the Subscriptions tab lists active subscriptions.
- Choose the subscription payment method Find the Pay for it With section and select a payment method.Confirm: If the payment method set under Pay for it With has a Nitro or Boost subscription, it shows a corresponding Subscription tag under Billing.
- Manage the Server Boost subscription separately To manage a Server Boost subscription, go to User Settings > Subscriptions.Where: User Settings → SubscriptionsConfirm: Check that Server Boosts appear as a separate monthly subscription from Nitro.
- Review purchase receipts Purchase receipts or tax invoices can be located by going into User Settings > Billing.Where: User Settings → BillingConfirm: Check Transaction History for the purchase you want a receipt for.
Common mistakes
- Assuming the default payment method pays subscriptions Updating the subscription payment method does not change the default payment method. Why it happens: The subscription payment method does not automatically change which payment method is set as default.
- Removing a payment method without canceling first Removing payment methods does not end a subscription. Why it happens: An active subscription requires at least one saved payment method.
- Expecting one card to cover server subscriptions automatically Server and app subscriptions charge from the original payment method or the one set for that app subscription. Why it happens: That payment method will not show a Subscription tag within the Billing tab.Already happened: If this already confused your billing setup, see server ownership.

Keeping track of who has access
After setup, you want a clear picture of who holds owner, admin, and payment access on the server. Delvia helps you track that access in one place instead of across scattered settings pages.
