What Can a Twitch Editor Do

The Editor role gives dashboard access to help manage your channel, but it is narrower than full ownership.

Is this your situation?

You are about to make someone an Editor and want to know exactly what they can and cannot touch. You want to confirm the role before handing over access.

What it is

There are currently six roles that can be assigned to people on a channel. Editors can access a channel's dashboard to help manage it. Editors can set channel clipping permissions. It is possible for a user to be a VIP, an editor, and an artist at the same time. Only the channel owner can add or remove the Editor role.

How Twitch handles this

  • Editors can access the Creator Dashboard to help manage the channel.
  • Editors can set channel clipping permissions.
  • A user can hold the Editor role alongside VIP and Artist roles at once.
  • Only the channel owner can add or remove the Editor role, not another Editor.

Common mistakes

  • Assuming an Editor can remove their own role Only the channel owner can add or remove the Editor role. Why it happens: Dashboard access can be mistaken for role-management control.Already happened: If someone already has Editor access you did not grant, see removed user still has access. • Expecting an Editor to see payout information A related role, Business Manager, cannot view the Revenue/Payouts section of the Creator Dashboard. Why it happens: Dashboard access is assumed to cover every section.
  • Thinking roles are exclusive A user can be a VIP, an Editor, and an Artist at the same time. Why it happens: Each role sounds like a single, separate category.

If this changes who is in control

If the Editor role is unclear, confusion about who can act on the channel can grow. The Roles Manager shows a list of all individuals who currently have a role on the channel.
