TikTok ad account roles explained

Three ad account roles — Admin, Operator, and Analyst — set what a person can view, create, or manage.

Is this your situation?

You are looking at a TikTok ad account and trying to work out what each person assigned to it can actually do. You want to know which role to give someone before you grant access.

What it is

You want to know what a member can do on a specific ad account. TikTok defines three roles for ad account permissions: admin, operator, and analyst. An admin can view ads and performance, access reports, create and edit ads, manage audiences, manage finance, and manage ad account settings. An operator can view ads and performance, access reports, create and edit ads, and manage audiences and finance. An analyst can view ads, performance, and reports, but cannot create or edit ads, manage audiences, manage finance, or manage ad account settings.

How TikTok handles this

  • An admin can create an ad account; an operator or analyst cannot.
  • An admin can request access to an ad account; a Standard-role member cannot.
  • An admin can assign a member to an ad account; a Standard-role member cannot.
  • Both Admin and Standard roles can manage ad account assets, but only ones they have been assigned.
  • Account Group members can choose one of Admin, Operator, or Analyst when assigned.

Common mistakes

  • Assigning Operator expecting settings control An operator cannot manage ad account settings. Why it happens: You expect the operator role to cover every task an admin handles.Already happened: If access may already be lost — How to Recover Access to a TikTok Business Center
  • Giving Analyst access to run campaigns An analyst cannot create or edit ads, manage audiences, or manage finance. Why it happens: The role name suggests reporting only, but the limits extend further than expected.
  • Expecting an Operator to request new ad account access Only an Admin can request access to an ad account. Why it happens: Standard-role members assume request rights follow general edit access.Already happened: Review who holds Admin before granting access further; see how TikTok account access works.

If this changes who is in control
