Losing Your Only TikTok Admin and Getting Access Back

When the one admin is gone, the account is not gone with them — but getting back in takes a defined path.

Is this your situation?

The only person with admin access to your TikTok Business Center is gone. You cannot add members, change roles, or manage the account.

Do this first

Do not create a second Business Center as a workaround. It is recommended to have at least 2 or more Business Center Admins to avoid loss of access. To prevent access problems in the future, at least one more admin should be added to the account.

Which situation is yours?

  • The admin left but their account still exists.
  • The admin's account was deactivated or deleted.
  • You never had a second admin set up.
  • You are a Standard role, not Admin.
  • The Business Center itself appears locked.
  • You manage an Organization Account, not Business Center.

How TikTok handles this

  • Admins can edit and manage all members and assets in a TikTok Business Center.
  • It is recommended to have at least 2 or more Business Center Admins to avoid loss of access.
  • Only members with Admin access can turn on 2-Step Verification for Business Center.
  • It is recommended to regularly review who has access to a TikTok Business Center.

Which recovery path is yours?

  1. Is the former admin's personal TikTok account still active and reachable? It is recommended to ensure all Business Center admin users are valid and under the client's control, such as via Email, Phone, Authenticator Account, Linked Google Account, or Linked TikTok Account.
  2. Can anyone else currently log in with a Standard role? Admin role can add a Member, but Standard role cannot.
  3. Is this a Business Center or an Organization Account? The administrators of an Organization Account can control the login permissions of the organization account.
  4. Was the account possibly compromised rather than left unattended? If an account is compromised, TikTok will suspend the account to secure it and prevent further compromised access.

What not to do

  • Creating a second Business Center to bypass the lock You still cannot reach the original account's assets this way.Why it happens: Teams assume a workaround exists when the usual path is blocked.
  • Assuming any remaining member can grant admin rights Admin role can add a Member, but Standard role cannot. Why it happens: Roles are not visibly distinct until someone tries to act on one.
  • Sharing the former admin's password instead of recovering the role You still lack your organization's own admin structure this way.Why it happens: It feels like the fastest route when no admin remains.

What to have ready

  • Confirm who last held the Admin role The Business settings page includes Admin information.
  • List every remaining member and their role Both Admin and Standard roles can be assigned a TikTok account.
  • Check whether 2-Step Verification is enabled Only members with Admin access can turn on 2-Step Verification for Business Center.
  • Check whether this is a Business Center or Organization Account Administrators of an Organization Account can control login permissions of the organization account.
  • Check the former admin's linked email or phone Note whether these are still under your organization's control.
  • Review any Finance Manager or Finance Analyst roles Finance Manager and Finance Analyst roles are added on top of Admin access.

Stop this happening again

It is recommended to have at least 2 or more Business Center Admins to avoid loss of access. See the access review checklist to keep admin coverage current.

Keeping track of who has access

A single point of admin failure is one you can plan around before it happens. Delvia gives teams a standing view of who holds admin roles across their accounts. That view turns a preventable departure into a routine handover instead of a recovery case.
