How to Recover Instagram After Losing Your Authenticator App
Lost or deleted the authenticator app that generates your Instagram codes? Use the need-help option at the code prompt — a backup code, linked Facebook, or verification — then re-add Instagram to a new app.
Deleting the authenticator app, wiping a phone, or switching devices without migrating your codes all leave Instagram asking for a code your app no longer produces. The codes are not stored by Instagram, so reinstalling the app alone will not bring them back. You get in with a fallback, then re-add Instagram to your new authenticator.
Recover after losing the authenticator app
Tap "need help" at the code prompt
On the two-factor screen, choose the get-help or try-another-way option to see your fallbacks.
Where: instagram.com/accounts/login → two-factor prompt → need help / try another way
Use a backup code or a linked Facebook account
A saved backup code bypasses the app entirely; otherwise log in via a Facebook account linked in Accounts Center.
Where: Accounts Center login
Complete identity verification if needed
With no codes and no linked account, finish identity verification, which may include a video selfie. It is slower and not guaranteed.
If this fails: Instagram video selfie verification
Re-add Instagram to a new authenticator
Once in, set up two-factor again on your new authenticator app and save a fresh set of backup codes offline.
Where: Instagram app → Settings → Accounts Center → Password and security → Two-factor authentication
Confirm: The app shows a new six-digit code that matches the prompt at next login.

Access issues are easier to prevent when roles, owners, and responsibilities are recorded clearly
Most access problems trace back to the same gap — no clear record of who has access, what role they hold, and what should happen when that changes. Delvia helps you keep that record so problems are visible before they become incidents.
