Instagram business account requirements

To run a business account with full team access you need a connected Facebook Page and admin rights on both the Page and the Instagram account. Here is the checklist.

Switching to a business account is free and quick, but to unlock its full value — especially shared, password-free access — there are a few things you need in place. The account must be professional, it should be connected to a Facebook Page, that Page should sit inside a Meta Business Portfolio, and you need admin rights on both the Page and the Instagram account to manage everything cleanly.

Before you start

What you need to run a business account with full team access:

  • A professional account

Switch from personal to a Business (or Creator) account — free and instant.

Verify: Profile → Settings → look for professional-account tools and insights.

  • A connected Facebook Page

A business account connects to a Facebook Page; this is what carries role-based access. An account links to one Page at a time.

Verify: Instagram → Settings → check the linked Facebook Page.

  • The Page inside a Business Portfolio

The Page should live in a Meta Business Portfolio so the Instagram account becomes an assignable asset.

Verify: Meta Business settings → Accounts → confirm the Page and Instagram account appear.

  • Admin rights on both

To manage access end to end you need admin on the Facebook Page and full control of the Instagram asset.

Verify: Meta Business settings → People → confirm your role.

Frequently asked questions

You can use basic business features without it, but the password-free, role-based team-access path runs entirely on the Facebook Page + Business Portfolio system. For full team access, the connection is required.

Delvia

Access issues are easier to prevent when roles, owners, and responsibilities are recorded clearly

Most access problems trace back to the same gap — no clear record of who has access, what role they hold, and what should happen when that changes. Delvia helps you keep that record so problems are visible before they become incidents.

Delvia is free on iPhone and Android. Keep a clear record of who has access to your accounts — and what to do when that changes — wherever you are.
