Recover a Discord Server After the Owner Was Banned
The server's owner was banned and the server has no active owner. Here is how to request an ownership transfer without them.
Is this your situation?
If the owner is inactive and not banned, Discord contacts them for consent to a server ownership transfer. You want to know whether ownership transfer can move to someone else without that account coming back.
Do this first
Do not wait for the banned owner account to come back. Gather the server name and the inactive owner's Discord Username before contacting support. Submit a server ownership transfer request through Discord's support ticket form at https://support.discord.com/hc/requests/new.
Which situation is yours?
- Server has 100 members by active user count
- Owner hasn't accessed their account for at least a month
- You hold administrator or moderator permissions in the server
- Server is not monetized
- You own a Partnered or Verified server
- Requesting on behalf of someone else, not yourself
- Multiple servers need new owners, one ticket each
How Discord handles this
- A server ownership transfer request requires the server to have 100 members by active user count.
- It also requires the current owner not to have accessed their account for at least a month.
- The requestor must have administrator or moderator permissions within the server.
- The server must not be monetized for the request to qualify.
- If the request does not meet every criterion, it is denied with no exceptions.
Which recovery path is yours?
- Is the server Partnered or Verified? The owner of a Partnered or Verified server must submit the ownership transfer request themselves.
- Does the server meet the member and inactivity criteria? Discord's support team can only assist with the transfer if the request meets all the criteria.
- Is the owner inactive but not banned? Discord contacts the inactive owner to get their consent for the server ownership transfer.
- Did the owner approve the transfer or fail to respond within 7 days? Discord transfers the server if it is eligible per the requirements.
- Did the owner deny the request, or does the server fail the criteria? Discord will not proceed with the transfer of the server.
What not to do
- Asking the banned owner to log back in You expect the server's ownership problem to resolve once the owner returns. Why it happens: The server looks like it only needs the owner to return.
- Filing the request on behalf of someone else Discord cannot transfer server ownership if the requestor is asking on behalf of another user. Why it happens: A moderator files for a member who wants ownership instead of filing themselves.
- Marking the server Partnered or Verified by mistake Under Is your server Partnered, Verified?, select Yes only if the server is confirmed Partnered or Verified, not Community. Why it happens: Having the Community Feature enabled does not mean the server is Partnered or Verified.Already happened: Choosing incorrectly could delay the request's processing.
What to have ready
- Server Name Confirm the exact server name before filing.
- Server ID Copy the server ID after enabling Developer Mode.
- Inactive owner's Discord Username Check the Members list for the exact username.
- Inactive owner's User ID Copy the user ID from the owner's profile.
- New owner's Discord Username Confirm the intended new owner's exact username.
- New owner's User ID Copy the new owner's user ID the same way.
- Whether the server is monetized, Partnered, or Verified Check for a Partnered or Verified badge next to the server name.
- Server has 100 members based on active user count You confirm your server's member list before filing the request.
Stop this happening again
You want to avoid waiting on the inactive-owner process if a backup owner is never set up. A server member can request ownership transfer when a server owner steps away or becomes inactive.

Keeping track of who has access
You want clarity about who holds ownership before an account is ever suspended. Delvia is built to keep that arrangement clear among the people who hold access. Seeing who holds ownership and backup roles removes the guesswork this kind of recovery requires, and it is preventable.
