How to Transfer Ownership of a YouTube Channel
Move a YouTube channel between owners through the Brand Account primary-owner transfer — including the mandatory waiting period and what cannot be undone.
Transferring a YouTube channel is really transferring its Brand Account, not adding a Manager in Studio. The process has a mandatory waiting period and is effectively irreversible once finalised — treat it as a governance decision, not a quick task.
If your situation is actually …
- You only need to give someone working access → Add someone to a YouTube channel →
- The transfer is stuck or not progressing → Why ownership transfer is not working →
Before you start
The channel is on a Brand Account
Personal-account channels cannot transfer ownership cleanly — convert first.
Verify: Studio → Settings → Channel → Advanced → Account information.
Both parties have Google Accounts ready
The new owner needs a Google Account; the current owner must remain reachable through the waiting period.
Transfer the Brand Account primary owner
Add the new person as a Manager first
Invite them as a Brand Account manager and have them accept.
Where: myaccount.google.com/brandaccounts
Wait out the required period
Google enforces a waiting window (commonly up to 7 days) before a recently-added manager can become primary owner.
Make them primary owner
In Brand Account details, transfer the primary owner role to the new manager.
Confirm: The new person now shows as primary owner; you drop to manager.
If this fails: Transfer not working

Access issues are easier to prevent when roles, owners, and responsibilities are recorded clearly
Most access problems trace back to the same gap — no clear record of who has access, what role they hold, and what should happen when that changes. Delvia helps you keep that record so problems are visible before they become incidents.
