How to Recover an Instagram Account Without a Password

Forgot your password? This is the simplest case — reset it from the login screen using your username, email, or phone, or log in through a linked Facebook account.

Forgetting your password is the most common — and most recoverable — lockout. As long as you still control the email or phone on the account, a reset link gets you straight back in. The flow only gets harder if those contacts are also gone, which is a different page.

If your situation is actually …

Reset and get back in

Stage 1 · Stabilize

Confirm your contact is current

  1. Make sure you can open the email or read the SMS tied to the account.
Stage 2 · Diagnose

Request the reset

  1. On the login screen tap "Forgot password?" and enter your username, email, or phone.
Where: Instagram login → Forgot password?
Stage 3 · Reclaim

Set a new password

  1. Open the reset link and choose a strong, unique password.
You’re returned to your feed, logged in.
Stage 4 · Harden

Avoid the next lockout

  1. Save the password in a password manager and turn on two-factor authentication with offline backup codes.
Where: Settings → Accounts Center → Password and security
If this flow does not restore access: Account recovery overview

Reset from the login screen

  1. Tap "Forgot password?"

It sits under the password field on the login screen.

    Where: Instagram login screen

  2. Enter an identifier

Type your username, email, or phone number — whichever you remember.

  3. Open the link

Instagram sends a reset link to your email or a code by SMS. Use it to set a new password.

Confirm: You can log in with the new password.

Access issues are easier to prevent when roles, owners, and responsibilities are recorded clearly

Most access problems trace back to the same gap — no clear record of who has access, what role they hold, and what should happen when that changes. Delvia helps you keep that record so problems are visible before they become incidents.

Delvia is free on iPhone and Android. Keep a clear record of who has access to your accounts — and what to do when that changes — wherever you are.
