Recover a Disabled or Banned Discord Account
What to do when Discord disables or suspends your account, in the right order.
Is this your situation?
You tried to log into Discord and saw a message that your account is disabled, suspended, or banned. You want to know what this means and whether the account can come back, or whether you need a backup owner arrangement going forward.
Do this first
Do not create a new account yet. A suspended user can still log in to review their account standing and see their violations and the duration of their suspension. A suspension can be temporary, called a temp ban, or permanent, called a ban.
Which situation is yours?
- Account shows disabled: disabling puts the account on hold instead of permanently deleting it.
- Account is temporarily suspended: a temporary suspension can last up to 1 year.
- Account is permanently suspended: a user with a permanent suspension will lose their account.
- You believe the permanent suspension is an error: Discord prioritizes helping users who believe they were permanently suspended in error.
- A suspension can be a temp ban or permanent, called a ban.
How Discord handles this
- A disabled account is put on hold instead of being permanently deleted.
- A disabled account can be restored by logging in and following the prompts, which reverses the disabling.
- A suspension can be a temporary ban, called a temp ban, or a permanent ban.
- A suspended user can still log in to review their account standing and see their violations and suspension duration.
- A user with a permanent suspension will lose their account.
Which recovery path is yours?
- Does logging in show the account as disabled, not banned? Disabling puts the account on hold instead of permanently deleting it.
- Does your account standing show a temporary suspension? A suspended user can still log in to review their Account Standing and see their violations and the duration of their suspension.
- Does your account standing show a permanent suspension? A user with a permanent suspension will lose their account.
- Do you believe the permanent suspension was made in error? Discord prioritizes helping users who believe they have been permanently suspended in error.
- Did the suspension come with a different suspension type, temporary or permanent? A suspension can be temporary (temp ban) or permanent (ban).
What not to do
- Assuming disabled means deleted A disabled account is put on hold instead of being permanently deleted. Why it happens: The login message looks similar to a ban notice.
- Creating a new account before checking standing A suspended user can still log in to review their Account Standing and see their violations. Why it happens: The login block makes the account look unreachable.
- Expecting a permanent suspension to expire A user with a permanent suspension will lose their account. Why it happens: Temporary suspensions create an expectation that all suspensions end.
- Confusing temporary and permanent suspension types A suspension can be temporary (temp ban) or permanent (ban). Why it happens: Both suspension types show a similar login block message.
What to have ready
- Check your account standing You can log in to see violations and suspension duration. Look for a suspension label.
- Check if disabled, not banned A disabled account can be restored by logging in. Follow the prompts after login.
- Check the suspension type A suspension can be temporary or permanent. Read the label in account standing.
- Check for an active subscription Disabling the account will not cancel the subscription. Check User Settings for a subscription.
- Check whether charges continue You keep being charged unless you cancel it. Check your billing history.
- Check if the suspension lifts on its own Temporary suspensions can last up to 1 year. Read the duration shown.
Stop this happening again
You want the server to keep working if your own login stops being usable. Set up a backup owner for the server so access does not stop if this happens again.
Quick reference

| Belief suspension was an error | Discord prioritizes these appeals. |
| Suspension types | A suspension can be temp ban or permanent ban. |
| Active subscription on a disabled account | Disabling the account does not cancel an active subscription, and charges continue unless the subscription is cancelled. |
Keeping track of who has access
Losing access to an account unexpectedly is a preventable kind of disruption for a server or a team. Delvia gives you a clear record of who holds access, so a single disabled login does not stop everything. Knowing who else can act keeps a server running while one account is reviewed.
