Recover a Discord Server Stolen by an Attacker
If someone else now owns your server and you have been banned, start with your account, not the server.
Is this your situation?
You find your server now belongs to another account and you are banned from it. You are looking for recovery steps, not steps for a server that was deleted or wiped of members.
Do this first
Do not contact the new owner or try to negotiate. Submit a ticket to the Discord team through dis.gd/hackedaccount if you believe your account has been compromised or accessed. Provide all required information if there have been any unauthorized transactions resulting from your compromised account.
Which situation is yours?
- Your account was hacked and ownership transferred away.
- You still have access to your account email.
- You suspect a malicious link or download compromised your account and personal data.
- You see billing charges after losing control of your account.
- You have not enabled Multi-Factor Authentication, recommended to keep your account safe.
- You clicked something promising free Nitro, often designed to steal login credentials.
- You have not reviewed your Authorized Apps for unwanted access.
How Discord handles this
- Users are responsible for the security of their account under Discord's Terms of Service.
- If a user fails to secure their account and it is compromised, Discord may be unable to assist in its recovery.
- Malicious links and downloads from unknown or untrusted sources can compromise your account and personal data.
- Scammers may impersonate Discord employees offering to appeal actions on your account, an example of social engineering.
- Discord Staff will never contact users directly through the Discord app for support-related matters.
Which recovery path is yours?
- Do you suspect your account was compromised to cause the server theft? Submit a ticket to the Discord team through dis.gd/hackedaccount.
- Did a social engineering attempt happen, such as someone posing as Discord staff to appeal actions on your account? That is social engineering: an attempt to manipulate you into sharing login, confidential, or personal information.
- Did unauthorized transactions occur on your account as a result of this? Submit a request to the Discord team and include that there have been unauthorized transactions, providing all required information.
- Was a malicious link or download involved, such as one promising free Nitro? Suspicious links or files may appear as games or free Nitro offers but are often designed to steal login credentials.
- Have you reset your password? A good first step if concerned about account security is to reset the password.
What not to do
- Trusting a message claiming to be Discord staff Discord Staff will never contact users directly through the Discord app for support-related matters. Why it happens: Scammers impersonate Discord employees offering to appeal actions on your account, a social engineering example.
- Clicking unknown links or files Avoid clicking on links or downloading files from unknown or untrusted sources. Why it happens: Malicious links and downloads can compromise your account and personal data.
- Filing a chargeback instead of a request Filing a chargeback or refund request directly with your financial institution may result in account suspension pending further investigation by Discord. Why it happens: Submit a request to the Discord billing team at dis.gd/billing instead.
What to have ready
- Account email access Confirm you can still receive mail at the account's email address.
- Signs of a malicious link or file Recall whether you clicked a link or download promising a game or free Nitro.
- Any unauthorized transactions Check billing history for charges you did not make.
- Multi-Factor Authentication status Check whether Multi-Factor Authentication is enabled on your account.
- Password strength Check whether your password is strong and unique.
- Authorized Apps list Review Authorized Apps and remove any you do not recognize.
- Windows device scan Run a Windows Defender scan to check for potential viruses.
Stop this happening again
You want your server to be easier to recover if your account is attacked again. Set up a backup owner for your server before this happens again.

Keeping track of who has access
Situations like this are preventable. Delvia gives you a view of who holds ownership and access so a change like this stands out. That visibility is what turns a sudden loss into something you catch early.
