Recover a Discord Server When Ownership Transfer Is Denied
A denied transfer means the criteria weren't met, not that nothing can be done.
Is this your situation?
You submitted a server ownership transfer request and Discord denied it. You want to know why it was denied and whether you can try again, or whether a backup owner arrangement could have helped.
Do this first
You want to resubmit the same request right away. One criterion for a server ownership transfer request is that the server has 100 members based on active user count. If a criterion does not match, the denial stands with no exceptions.
Which situation is yours?
- Server under 100 active members: does not meet the member criterion.
- Owner active recently: does not meet the inactivity criterion.
- Requestor inactive in last 30 days: does not meet requestor criterion.
- Requestor lacks admin or moderator role: does not meet permissions criterion.
- Server is monetized: not eligible for this request.
- Current owner denied the request: transfer will not proceed.
- Requesting on behalf of someone else: cannot be processed.
How Discord handles this
- Support can only assist with a transfer if the request meets all the criteria.
- A request that fails the criteria is denied with no exceptions.
- Discord cannot transfer ownership if the requestor asks on behalf of another user.
- If the current owner approves or does not respond within 7 days, Discord transfers the server if eligible.
- If the owner denies the request or criteria are not met, Discord will not proceed.
Which recovery path is yours?
- Is the server under 100 active members? The server has 100 members based on active user count as a criterion for the request.
- Has the current owner used their account within the last month? The current server owner hasn't accessed their account for at least a month.
- Were you active on your account in the last 30 days? The requestor has been active on their account in the last 30 days.
- Do you have admin or moderator permissions? The requestor has administrator or moderator permissions within the server.
- Is the server monetized? One criterion for the request is that the server is not monetized.
What not to do
- Resubmitting without checking criteria Submitting the same request again without reviewing each criterion. Why it happens: You cannot tell from the response alone which criterion failed.
- Requesting on another person's behalf Asking Discord to transfer ownership for someone else. Why it happens: Discord cannot transfer ownership if the requestor is asking on behalf of another user.
- Assuming a Community server counts as Partnered or Verified Marking a Community-enabled server as Partnered or Verified on the form. Why it happens: Having the Community Feature enabled on a server does not mean that the server is Partnered or Verified.
- Submitting multiple servers in one ticket Listing more than one server per transfer request. Why it happens: The support team can only handle one server per ownership transfer request.
What to have ready
- Server member count Confirm the server has 100 members based on active user count.
- Current owner's inactivity Confirm the owner hasn't accessed their account for at least a month.
- Your own activity Confirm you have been active on your account in the last 30 days.
- Your permissions Confirm you hold administrator or moderator permissions in the server.
- Monetization status Confirm the server is not monetized.
- Server name Gather the Server Name for the request.
- Partnered or Verified status Check for a badge next to the server's name confirming Partnered or Verified status.
Stop this happening again
A server member can request ownership transfer when a server owner steps away or becomes inactive. Understand how server ownership transfer works so you know the criteria before you ask.

Keeping track of who has access
You want to know why the request was denied before filing again. Situations like this are preventable with a clearer view of ownership and activity. Delvia keeps that picture visible, so a transfer request is accurate the first time.
